With over 20 years in PR, Deborah Gilels has led dozens of award campaigns, including FYC Awards for Animation Features and Shorts, as well as Doc Features and Shorts. In 2019 Liz and the Blue Bird was nominated for the Best Feature Animation by the Satellite Awards. Gilels takes an imaginative approach to these campaigns, creating excitement around the films and filmmakers.
Gilels has launched films at festivals such as Austin, Tribeca, Dances With Films, Toronto, Newport Beach, Cannes, HollyShorts, LA Shorts, LA Femme International Film Festival, Hollywood Reel Independent, Richmond, St. Louis, Palm Springs, Santa Barbara, Warsaw, Heartland, New Filmmakers LA & NY, leading anime film, series and brand campaigns at Comicon and Anime Expo, as well as being the lead publicist for films released through Fathom Events and Iconic Releasing.
She is a sponsor of the Oscar Qualifying HollyShorts, in 2023 was the lead publicist for LA Shorts (another Oscar Qualifier), and is on the Board of the LA Femme International Film Festival.
Moreover, she has promoted client’s films at markets such as AFM, MIPCOM, and Berlin.
LA Media Consultants has extensive experience in putting together film premieres and special screenings, as well as film festival events. Projects Include Japan’s ACA Cinema Project, the first Autism in Entertainment Conference at the Skirball Center, and the revival of Miyazaki’s The Castle of Cagliostro for Fathom Events.
We have launched strategic campaigns for indie films film festivals, film markets and for distribution/production companies. Our campaigns have led to indie films and docs being bought by film studios and broadcasters such as Animal Planet, the Doc Channel, Gravitas Ventures, Freestyle Releasing, Tubi, Peacock, Buffalo 8, JLTV, Amazon Prime, among others.
We have successfully booked our clients on media such as the Today Show, Page 6, KTLA, KCAL, Fox Network, Good Day LA, the Atlanta Morning Show, WGN in Chicago, ABC Radio, Rolling Out, Urbank Radio Network, Black Film, NPR, and TV podcast, the Mike Wagner Show, as well have secured coverage in outlets such as People Magazine, the Hollywood Reporter, Deadline Hollywood, Variety, Entertainment Weekly, LA Times, Screen International, Anime News Network, KIdscreen, Animation Magazine, Crunchyroll, Ebony, Atlanta Star Constitution, Daily Mail, and TMZ.
Gilels has a long career in the film industry and has held development executive positions at companies with studio deals (Fox and Warner Brothers TV), acquisitions for the Japanese and Korean markets at MDI, that formed an alliance with CinemaNow and Lionsgate, as well as at PFG Entertainment, where she worked on co-productions with foreign sales. Her experience has enabled her to assist filmmakers in strategizing and obtaining distribution of their indie films and documentaries.
